Coconut chutney- for dosa and idly

Coconut chutney- for dosa and idly

Coconut chutney is an essential side for dosa and idli. Making this coconut chutney takes just ten minutes. That is, if you have fresh grated coconut at hand. I get bags of grated coconut from the supermarket and freeze it. If using frozen coconut, use very hot water for grinding. This will instantly thaw the coconut.

Grind coconut with shallots, green chillies and salt to make a coarse paste. Heat the oil for tempering. Add mustard seeds. When they start spluttering, add curry leaves and red chillies. Pour coconut paste carefully into the hot tempering. Stir well to combine. Let the mixture heat up well and then serve.
